NYE Nails!

December 31, 2012

NYE is the night of all things that are sparkly and glittery. It's one of the only nights a year where a girl can wear way too much glitter on one outfit and not be patronized for it - yayy! That doesn't have to stop at the clothes, however. Here's my nail tutorial on how to get my NYE nails:

I went all black and sparkles this year. My look for tonight is a little grunge and a little glamourous. Want to know how to get these nails? Follow these easy steps!
  1. A good thing to do before every self manicure is rub a coat from a cuticle pen onto your nails. I have one from ELF. It fortifies and adds shine to your nails, to reduce wear and tear.
  2. Second, give yourself everyone's favorite part of the in salon manicure - the lotion. Gently massage your hands with any of your favorite fragrant or not fragrant hand lotion - today I use Origin's age-defense moisturizer with white tea.
  3. Now, for the painting. For the base of it all, apply two coats of "Black Tie" by Confetti. (Each polish used today was only $2.36 each found at CVS!)
  4. Next coat is the glitter! The color is a very fun, translucent glitter color by Confetti called "Tazmanian Devil." Apply to all nails only once, or until you like how it looks.
  5. Lastly, the top coat. You can use any you want, however I stuck with the Confetti theme and used theirs, called "Glass Slipper."
My three confetti nail polishes, Origins lotion, and ELF cuticle pen.

There you go, you're ready to show off your va va voom glitter nails tonight! What am I wearing? My sparkly Ya Los Angeles LBD and blazer, black tights, and I haven't decided on my black leather studded ballet flats or black leather ankle boots. Anybody want to help me decide in the comments?

Have a great night and stay safe! If you plan on drinking don't go near your car! However if you find yourself in a pickle and need a ride - AAA is giving your drunk ass a ride home, just call 1-800-222-4537.

LIFESTYLE: Food For Thought for Your New Years Resolutions!

December 30, 2012

It's that time of year where everyone is nervously contemplating their New Years resolution. Whether it's a new mindset or a weight loss goal - there's a negative stigma that comes up with a goal for self-improvement. Is it the fear of failure? Why is it that New Years resolutions are fun to make but so hard to keep?

I thought I'd write this little blurb up to provide some inspiration in making your Resolutions. Since this is a half lifestyle blog - it'll mostly be geared to weight loss however you can apply these rules to any goal you wish to achieve.

  • 1. Make your goal realistic. Know what you're capable of. I'm not suggesting to aim low, obviously, but don't say you're going to lose a crazy mount of weight unless you know you physically can. Weight loss is NOT firstly about looking good, it's about FEELING good - being healthy.
  • 2. Have your endgame in mind, however make your initial goal a benchmark. For example, if you want to lose 40 pounds, don't be obsessed with that number. Think, "I'd love to lose 5 pounds in the next two weeks." So, while you're working hard in the gym, think of that closer, more realistic goal and you'll feel so much better when you accomplish it. Even better, it will feel great when you achieve your final goal; you'll be thinking of all the hard work it took to get there. Every lap in a mile is its own battle. To sound cliche, Rome wasn't built in a day!
  • 3. Keep this in mind: It takes two weeks of hard work  to notice a change in your own body, 4-6weeks for friends and people close to you to notice, and 8 weeks for strangers to notice! All that hard work WILL pay off!
  • 4. To be honest, when I dropped 30 or so pounds this year that was NOT my resolution. I don't know where my inspiration came from, I just wanted a change I could be proud of. Resolutions are nice guidelines, but they don't have to be the end all be all.
That's why my resolution is so vague. I keep my goals close to my heart, and my visions on my sleeve. My resolution is in the versgram (follow my instagram, n_vergak), above. It's "Don't let anyone get in the way of your happiness. Strive for more, achieve more." I feel like 2012 was one of the best years because I stopped living for other people's happiness and cultivated my own. With any goal you want to achieve this year, keep in mind that you're doing it for YOUR own happiness. If you're not, stop and work on your own happiness! Here's some inspirational images I pulled off of tumblr for your own inspiration.  HAPPY NEW YEAR!

OOTD: A VERY LEATHER CHRISTMAS

December 25, 2012

This morning, I awoke in my comfy VS pullover and had a pre-thought out outfit: cute dress and ankle boots ready to wear. However, the a few things threw a wrench in my plans. First, the miraculous inch of snow coated on the ground deemed it too cold to sport my short-sleeved dress. Also, I was bombarded by amazing gifts of clothes from my parents! I might do a post later about my presents, but that's not what this post is about, it's my Christmas Day OOTD, put together in al of 5-10 minutes!

I'll start with the first picture, the clothes. I absolutely adore this Eyeshadow peplum shirt in deep coral from Macy's website ($32).  In jersey material, it's structure is impeccable. The broad shoulders, open back, and a well made peplum detail make it a classic top for any formal or casual occasion. Moving on down, I couldn't resist these leather leggings from Wet Seal. I got them and skinny jeans for buy one get one 70% off on Black Friday!
My friend Jenna spoiled me with these adorable studded flats from Aldo ($26). The juxtaposition of the stud and gem detail makes it cute and edgy simultaneously. The first "bling" piece is my signature diamond Swarovski studs, I got them in Austria and never take them out. However, on my second hole I'm wearing new cross studs from the F21 website, a pack of 6 different stud choices are ONLY $5.80!! On my wrist, I put on this cute gold/silver bracelet I found in a jewelry boutique in Cape Cod, and of course the new Pandora bracelet I got from my boyfriend yesterday.
My face has mostly red tones on it, but it's a simple look. Any blush on the cheeks, a coral base coat of eyeshadow and a light red eyeshadow for the corners. Black cat eyeliner, mascara on the top and bottom lashes with white eyeliner in the inner and outer corners to brighten up my eyes. Lastly, I've got eos lip balm and Maybelline  "Color Sensation" in plum perfect on my lips. My hair is curled with  the no-fail method for anyone with naturally wavy or straight hair: shower, blow dry, and leave it in a sock bun overnight.

Ou la la, You can easily look like santa's little sexy helper!

Side note: Just because Christmas has ended doesn't mean the shopping is over! Many stores have crazy post-christmas sales, as well as websites. These products are still available online in select sizes - I checked! Whether it's cyber shopping or you're braving the aftermath at the mall, happy shopping as always. ALSO, leave a comment with what you got this year. Have a merry Christmas/Holiday and enjoy time with your families - it's almost time for pie!

LIFESTYLE: HOW TO EAT HEALTHY WHILE EATING OUT

December 02, 2012

Whether it’s a lunch date, celebratory dinner, or grabbing a quick bite of fast food - eating out is always one of the most enjoyable ways to eat. However the calorie intake can be catastrophic if you’re not careful. There’s not one person out there I don’t know that doesn’t care about calorie intake. I empathize with all calorie watchers, being someone who is trying to maintain their recent 30 pound weight loss.

With all of the new fast-casual chains promising “healthier” options, it’s growing easier to have to wool pulled over your eyes. Also, most healthier options are more expensive. However, I’ve concocted some sure fire tips to keep in mind while you’re out to eat that will keep you focused and enjoy the food without worrying about feeling guilty afterwards!

  1. Avoid, Avoid, Avoid.

I’m not saying that eating out is the worst thing in the world, but whenever I’m eyeing a menu, nervously fingering the laminated options, It’s like I’m trying to pick the lesser of many evils. I find myself thinking, “that’d be too fatty, that’s definitely way too many carbs, I’d be able to eat THAT in my DREAMS.” The thing that gets me about eating out is that no matter how vividly every ingredient is described in the menu, you really never know what’s going in your food.

Really though, don’t get me wrong; I love eating out. However, perhaps the best way to avoid this Sophie’s Choice situation is just to avoid it in general.

There’s nothing wrong with brown bagging it! I do this in school every day. You can be as creative as you want - you’re not constricted to what’s on the menu that day. Some days I indulge in an organic peanut butter and nutella sandwich on wheat and greek yogurt, some days I have a salad with my favorite vinaigrette and chicken and veggies. The key to eating well and sticking with it is to actually ENJOY your food. You still want to look forward to it - so find your favorite healthy options and stick to them.

2.“Trigger” Foods

When you’re looking at a menu, I always look for key ingredients that I KNOW will be extra good for me. As an avid reader of Cosmopolitan as of recent (I’m not just in it for the love tips.... I promise) I’ve read many articles about “foods that make you look good” and “foods that make you look sexy.” Here’s some of my favorites  along with their perks.

(1)Berries

Strawberries are an excellent source of one of our favorite vitamins, vitamin C. The best ways to sneak these in are in delicious salads with walnuts and goat cheese and of course on deserts. They’re my favorite fruit!
(2) Walnuts

I’ve heard rumors for years that walnuts are the healthiest nuts out there for you. Nuts are perfect toppers for any sweet or savory dish. Or they’re just perfect for a snack. if you see these nuts on a menu item, it should pop out at you and definitely be in the running for your dish of the night. Don’t be afraid of the nutcracker - his treat is full of thiamin, vitamin b6, and are ultimately delicious!

(3) ACAI.
I capitalized this one because it’s the most healthy. It’s very important to get your daily dose of acai (pronounced ah-sai) because it has an outrageous amount of antioxidants in it. This is mostly found in smoothies and drinks of the blueberry variety. This goes to show - don’t be afraid to eat it if you can’t pronounce it!

3. Don’t be afraid to indulge in salads!

Most people must think I’m crazy by putting “indulge” and “salad” in the same sentence, but I feel bad for salads for getting that bad enigma. A salad doesn’t just have to be some raw veggies and frigid iceberg lettuce with light italian on the side. Think of how many different types of delicious nuts, fruits, meats, veggies, cheese, really whatever you want! It’s a blank canvas to throw all of your favorites together. The dressing really pulls all of the flavors together. Have you ever tried raspberry walnut vinaigrette? It’s to die for! Not to mention - a wrap in a whole grain, sun dried tomato or spinach wrap is a great way to have a sandwich, or all of your favorite salad fixings if you’re in the mood for a little bread.

4. It’s compromise that moves us along.

Eating healthy doesn’t mean that you’re signing up for a life of unfulfilling meals. Like any great relationship (admit it, we’re all in a relationship with food...) it takes compromise. When you’re out and you feel like you want some desert, go for it! Just don’t have bread with your meal. Or, the other way around. You could get that prime rib if you have grilled veggies or a salad on the side. You CAN have that delicious chicken parm.. grilled not fried! The options are endless. It’s not rationalizing, it’s just changing your mindset.

5. The plague of dining out: food jealousy

The worst feeling when eating out or even ordering in line is food jealousy. After you say your order that you could be very proud of, the next person in line’s order leaves your mouth watering. “I wish I ordered that..” When the food finally arrives at the table, we end up giving ourselves more calories by asking, “hey... can I try a bite of that?”

I believe I have mastered the ultimate solution. Everyone in your party collectively decides on a few, not too many, dishes or appetizers that they all like. The price will come up the same as one appetizer for the group and one meal for everyone. You can sample everything, feel just full enough, and not get jealous!

So, when someone asks you to go out to eat, don’t worry about your waistline. There will ALWAYS be great ways to enjoy yourself and feel great about it! Unless, of course, you’re going to a McDonalds.. I’d avoid that as much as possible.

YOUTUBE REVIEW: LUSH COSMETIC'S NEW SANDY SANTA SUGAR SCRUB

November 18, 2012

LUSH Cosmetics came out with a new sugar scrub for the holidays: The Sandy Santa Sugar Scrub. Inspiration for this new scrub was actually found while LUSH workers were on a beach in Brazil and they found a Santa sand sculpture. The very helpful worker at the LUSH at the Mall at Chesnut Hil in Newton, MA told me this tidbit today - along with great product knowledge. As LUSH's softest sugar scrub yet, it made my face feel and look like a baby's bottom. Hopefully after a few uses in and out of the shower I can say goodbye to dry skin! Check out my video review of this product on my youtube channel:

you can buy it online here.

WHAT'S TRENDING: ROSCHER TEST DESIGN

November 12, 2012

This Summer I was in an H&M in france and I fell in love with a cute tight dress with light pink and purple undertones. The design was unique and unlike anything that's been around lately - it was flawlessly edgy yet elegant at the same time. It was a design that alluded to a "Roscher test design" or as I like to dub it the ink blot design.

This design is no longer just used in psychological patients, its been seen lately in Topshops, H&Ms, and runways all around. It can easily be made casual with a top with this design, leather leggings, and boots or studded flats. Or, you can dress it up by wearing a dress with peplums and the design and black pumps. Go find your favorite piece including the roscher design and accessorize accordingly!

MAXXINISTA: What to wear to your formal events in the winter!

November 10, 2012

On Thursday, I went to a job interview at a local TJ Maxx. The day before, my friend Justin and I scoured the racks at the same TJ Maxx. Perhaps for different reasons - he wanted to dress me up, I wanted to get inspired for some winter fashions.

I found the staple trends of this winter - glitter, white, bold colors, and even some lace as well as my new must-have: peplum shirts. Justin threw some clothes at me and urged me to try them on. I was more than embarrassed when I had tell the dressing room lady that I had nine pieces to try on. However, I thought I'd make the most of it and make a post about it.

He found some fabulous pieces for even more fabulous prices. Here they are:

This fabulous and ultra comfy purple dress with lace detail was originally $36.00, but TJ Maxx did their magic and now it's only $24.99. The black pumps were originally $59.00, but are sold now for $24.99 as well.

Ultra comfy sweater, $19.99, Jessica Simpson jeggings $22.99

Officially obsessed with this shirt, the black detail contrasts with the red for the perfect pop. "mine" shirt - originally $22.00 now $19.99. Lace skirt (which was my sole purchase of the day) Originally $24.00, sold at $16.00 but was MARKED DOWN TO $10.00!

Oops - this one's blurry. Same skirt, but "mine" tank with elegant ruffle and gold detail - originally $18.00 now $12.99.

These looks would be great for fancy events during the winter or any time. Add Hue Tights (http://www1.bloomingdales.com/shop/product/hue-tights-opaque-control-top-u4690?ID=98102&PartnerID=LINKSHARE&cm_mmc=LINKSHARE-_-n-_-n-_-n&LinkshareID=QFGLnEolOWg-4r5REQ7Whvq8pq_.5NkP9A),  or an good tights under the white skirt if you get cold.

OOTD - Edgy Parisian Princess

November 04, 2012

On some Sundays, I do the readings at my church for community service. With the very strict dress code, sometimes it's hard to dress the way I really like to. Let's be honest, who wants to cover up a really cute neckline or neckline detail - such as lace, glitter, etc, with a frumpy shawl that makes you look like an old bag? However, I think I nailed it today, by finding a chic dress with a modest neckline and good length - and of course, I added my own spice to it.

I call this look the "Edgy Parisian Princess" because that's exactly what It reminds me of. Also, the fact that I found this dress at an H&M in a little town in the Alsace Region of France on my travels this summer helps.  I always pick one central piece to build the rest of my looks around, and the dress was of course my garment of choice. The dress was from H&M as mentioned before, and it was only $25! Under it, I slipped on some lacy floral tights from Forever 21, ($7).  I paired those with some brown combat-ish, laced ankle boots, (Marshalls - $22).  Those are the most versatile pair of boots I own, and when it comes to shopping - versatility is one of the biggest things I look for. I had simple, large stud diamond earrings from the Swarovski in Austria on, they were 15 euro. The euro to dollar conversion changes every day, so if you want to look that up you can. Lastly, I thought i'd make the dress more form-fitting my wrapping the white belt around my waist (thrifted, $7).

My hair is curled in the most effortless, but most effective way I've ever done it before! I simply left it in the sock bun over night. For most girls with wavy hair, a convenient feature about the sock bun is that after prolonged wear, it makes gorgeous curls! It's THAT easy. And that's not the last I'll be talking about the sock bun, my next post will be all things sock bun, however I'm not going to spoil it for you, you'll just have to read up! ;)

LISTEN:
22 - Taylor Swift. (I have to admit  - I can't stop listening to Red. This isn't even coming from a Taylor Swift fan, it seems I've been converted!)
Stubborn Love - The Lumineers. (One of my new favorite folk bands.)

H&M FALL 2012 LOOKBOOK FEATURING LANA DEL REY

September 24, 2012

The pencils are sharpened and shoes (flats, combat boots and oxfords) are polished - school is in session! A new school year/fall season is always very important and a sense of new beginnings looms over the crisp air. However, for this fall in the fashion world, Lana Del Rey tells us how to dress for our new beginnings in fashion!

You can access this fall lookbook very easily on your iPhone or iPod, using the Teen Vogue insider app! Ever since downloadng this app, I read it religiously. It’s cheaper and easier than buying the magazine, it’s easily accesible for a girl on the run, such as me!
Once you download the app from the app store, you’ll be prompted with this screen:
Click on “magazine” to view the highlights of this Octobr issue (this obviously changes monthly.) Then click on the H&M section and then “Lana Del Rey Lookbook.”

However, today I’m doing all the work for you and going over this lookbook on here, lucky you!
The first item showcased is a luscious Angora Blend sweater. Obviously, we can tell that Lana’s timeless classic beauty accentuates every piece so well. I just want to rip it off of my iPhone screen and buy it! However anyone can but this comfy, yet simply elegant sweater for only $19.95 at any H&M.

Tweed resurrected from the 70’s last February or March, and Lana looks stunning here in it. The tight fit mixes business with pleasure. It is the culmination of this season’s attention to textures. Pair it with some statement earrings like Lana and you can get this look at H&M for, again, only $19.95!

It is most definitely sweater weather. The second sweater Lana is seen wearing is a comfy cable-knit gem, with a color that would bring out our inner sea goddess. I agree with H&M here, a comfy big sweater, print leggings, and boots is for sure my go-to this fall/winter. So chic and accessible - just like this weater at AGAIN only $19.95!

(1) Lana rocks the leggings oh so well here, an interesting print paired with a simple cream shirt. The peplum adds just the right amount of flair, though. Print leggings are so versatile, and you can be very versatile by getting these babies for only $9.95 at H&M.
(2) OR you could combine both peplums and floral into this classic top for $14.95. It would look perfect with a pencil skirt or skinny jeans and pumps.

Lastly, every fashion conscious girl needs a jacket or blazer to spice up any blah look, or throw on while they’re running out the door. This biker jacket walks the line between feminine and edgy, and is a steal at $29.95.

SUMMER MUSC FESTIVAL STYLE

September 24, 2012

In my eyes, it’s not at the Milan or NYC Fashion week that you see the most self expression when it comes to fashion, it’s music festivals! It only makes sense, music fests are places to express yourself through music, why not express yourself through fashion as well? Music fests such as Warped Tour, Bonnaroo, Coachella, Bamboozle, Lollapalooza and more occur all spring and summer, and are some of the hottest places to be. The one I attend regularly is Vans Warped Tour. I always say Warped is the only place where splattering paint all over your body and having the F word on your shirt is not only accepted, but suggested.
Just walking around Warped Tour, you can see the array of different creative outfits worn by girls, and guys alike. Dressing for a music festival can be a very hard thing to do, however. You have to be dressing for these circumstances:
  • Very hot weather
  • A LOT of walking and action
  • Moshing/crowd surfing
  • … VERY HOT WEATHER!
  • Something to hold your belongings without it being a hassle

If you’re going to be going in pits, a drawstring or secure backpack works. Urban Outfiters carries very cute sensible backpacks, I spotted an inumerable amount of those. I got a cute floral one from aldo. You want your outfit to be cute, yet sensible at the same time. Don’t wear something that’s too high maintenance - you still want the focus to be on the music and fun. I wore a navy blue bodice from Urban Outfitters, Tribal Navy shorts from Urban Outfitters, and (imitation, yet cheaper) Toms from Target. Don’t mind the paint splattered all over my body here.
here’s another example of perfect cute yet sensible outfits for music festivals:

Adorable collared tanks, crop tops, high waisted shorts, even bandeaus and pencil skirts work. Choose whatever design and color is your favorite  - don’t be afraid to mix and match!

The Story So Far - Mt. Diablo
A Trophy Fathers Trophy Son  - Sleeping with Sirens

LANA DEL REY - MODERN DAY JACKIE O

September 24, 2012

I do not own this video.

“Money is the anthem for success”
I know, I know. I usually write about fashion, but why not throw a little culture in here and there? This topic is too imperative to not blog about. Most of you are familiar with the somewhat new, sultry pop singer Llana Del Rey. Starting with her music video for her single “Video Games”, Del Rey always makes sure her music videos are vintage and intriguing. Her new music video for her song “National Anthem” is no different, however it packs a cultural and political punch
She plays a mix of Marilyn, Audrey, and Jackie O in this music video. In this first scene, she’s seductively singing “Happy Birthday Mr. President” to, obviously Mr. President. However, it’s dark in the room and we can’t clearly see who Mr. President is. When the lights go on and we zoom in and we see him, tall, dark and handsome. Literally dark, darker than Obama. The next segment of the music video is the happy couple partying and playing with their biracial children and Mr. President doing his duties. They’re basically an interracial JFK and Jackie O.
The music video has a tragic ending with a JFK-style assassination of Mr. President, as Del Rey’s voice over claims that she “loves and loved him so very much.” It almost brought a tear to my eye, however it did bring up a fiery discussion in the topics. Obviously Del Rey was making a statement here that it doesn’t matter what color you are, you are beautiful. The only reason this video has brought about scandal is because it’s set in a time when this type of “taboo” would never happen. I think it’s a beautiful video with an equally as beautiful message. Obviously people share these same views, or else we wouldn’t have an African American president.
The Director Anthony Mandler said, It was never about re-creating a death scene, it was always about the person sitting next to him, it was always about seeing it through her eyes, seeing this kind of castle crumble in the moment, and that shot where she’s coming up out of the car, and the pain in her eyes, that destruction, it’s like the whole castle is crumbling around her”
What are your views on this video/topic? Do you agree with Llana here, or do you think this is a pop-culture faux-pas? Answer below!
Also, here’s some songs I think you’d all like if you like Llana Del Rey, and some of my summer jams at the moment.

Grouplove - Itchin’ on a Photograph

Best Coast - Our Deal (Music video featuring starlets such as Tyler Posey and Miranda Cosgrove and directed by Drew Barrymore!)

BETHANY COSENTINO FOR URBAN OUTFITTERS

September 24, 2012

When two of the most influential powers in our culture with a lot of momentum collide, it’s a potent bomb that we all don’t mind going off. That’s what happened when the best of the two worlds of music and fashion met - Best Coast and Urban Outfitters.
With the release of her new album “The Only Place,” and being showcased in many outlets such as the David Letterman show, Bethany Cosentino is on the rise to stardom fast. Just like her predecessors, many starlets needs their own line, such as Kim Kardashian and Miley Cyrus. She her love for music and fashion is equal, but in her words designing your own clothes is less “scary” and “more like putting your own taste and aesthetic out there.” Where else for this hipster surf chick to showcase her taste and aesthetic but Urban Outfitters?
Urban Outfitters is quickly becoming the new “it” store for those who want to look cute but want to go outside of the box. Personally, it’s one of my favorite stores. I’ve always admired Bethany’s style as much as her laid-back California inspired jams. She studied fashion in college for a while, so she should be trusted when it comes to pumping out amazing and stylish clothes for the summer time. She said her line should be inspired from California in the 90’s and Stevie Nicks, crop tops and varsity jackets galore. Check out her story here:

Samples form her line:
This dynamic see-through shirt is a perfect mix of elegant and edgy, and comes in 3 colors. $59.00 Urban Outfitters.

This skirt designed by Bethany embodies the rebelious style of women in the 90s, and comes in 4 colors. $49.00 Urban Outfitters.

Bethany really gets the LBD just right $59.00 Urban Outfitters.

CHANEL LALA - NEON TWEED FOR CHANEL MARCH 2012

September 24, 2012

As a result of being incredibly broke and incredibly cheap, I was scrolling the Nylon website to get the latest headlines from my favorite magazine instead of buying a hard copy. However this picture and the headline “best-dressed: chanel” caught my eye. The jacket that this model is wearing is absolutelystunning! The color of the jacket honestly does way more than pop. The bright pastel tones go perfectly with the color trends for spring 2012. Not to mention neon and tweed is a genius combo! As shown in the picture below, neon tweed can be used in a blazer, skirt, shorts, and more.

The article itself stated that Karl Lagerfield rounds up his “glittering ambassadors.” These true few starlets from all over the world spread the shining styles of Chanel worldwide. These starlets include DJ Leigh Lezark, artist Jen Brill, model Poppy Delevingne, and everyone’s favorite as Effy Stoneham in UK Skins: Kayla Scoledario. Very cool stuff!

THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING A MAXX-INISTA

September 24, 2012

Every girl knows that horrible feeling - it’s comparably worse than any form of clinical depression, SADD or any anxiety in the books. It’s that sweeping feeling when you tear through your overflowing closet and think, “I have nothing to wear!” At any point in the season every girl is prone to popping out of their avalanche of clothes and exclaiming that they have no clothes. That’s just a few symptoms, but I believe I have found a new remedy!
After realizing I have this disorder currently (admitting it is the first step) I ventured out on this snowy haze of a saturday to my local TJ Maxx! TJ Maxx is always great for dollarstoredivas that look out for name brands, because the whole mission of the store is to deliver designer labels to the general public without the colossal price tag. However, most of you already knew that. After swooning over a suitcase with the Britsh flag on it (perfect for my summer trip to Europe!) I went to look for some versatile, cute, and reasonably priced clothes. Versatility, style, and price are always my “big three” when shopping.

I’ve always wanted a cool leather jacket, so I was enthused when I discovered the red one on the top of the picture, for only $20! I’m also a little obsessed with the blouse on the bottom, though. It’s classic and casual at the same time, and it’s such a delicate but elegant color that can go with pretty much anything. I didn’t get the necklace there, I got it at Forever 21 a while back, but it’s an example of how great it can go with anything! This shirt was only $12!

I thought I would keep the tribal trend going and get the crop top on the left for $14. The sweater is a gem, it has a regular material on the back with a floral print, and lace incorporated into the cable knit on the front! I’m obsessed, and only for $34!
Altogether these four shirts were around $72. For four versatile and stylish shirts, I’d say that’s a pretty good remedy for this diva’s anxiety.

J CREW LOOKBOOK FALL 2011: FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE

The school year has sprung upon us like a chick hatchng out of its shell, and there are many sights and smells with it. The sight of your old friends and new teachers; the smell of your new shoes and jeans and cracking open a new J.Crew catalog is ten times for rewarding then cracking open your AP Chemistry book. (that’s just my opinion.)  Like the cliche’s in 90s shows where kids would hide comic books behind their textbooks, we can easily adapt the September edition of the J.Crew catalog to that!

The people at J.Crew took a trip to Saint Petersburg, Russia to spread their study of european fashion and culture and based the whole new catalog on it. Once you take a peek, you can easily tell the were inspired by the ballerinas they came across. Every model sporting this fall’s clothes were taken in a significant place in Saint Petersburg.
Let’s touch on the clothes. We all know J. Crew is known for using simple yet bold color combinations and preppy styles to make cutting edge looks every season; they sure didn’t fail this time. For this fall, don’t be afraid to break out the usual subdued tones of the season: Brown, navy, maroon, etc. Take a chance and incorporate a bright color and  definitely an animal print into the look!
Flipping through the pages of ballet flats and classy heels in animal prints and bold colors, I couldn’t notice the Fedora is back! This is old news for most of us and we’ce been rocking it since the end of summer, though. Also, anywhere from tall to ankle boots are always appropriate. I just got myself a beautiful pair of white doc martens, cowboy-inspired and leather boots are always a fall staple as well. Finally, bags are getting smaller and smaller, and petite, square envelope bags are being seen everywhere!
